DUTSE (Jigawa, Nigeria), July 14 (NNN-Xinhua) — Six people were killed and 65 others injured in a windstorm-triggered disaster in Nigeria’s northern state of Jigawa, the emergency management agency said.
The windstorm wreaked havoc on the Kafinhausa local government area of the state on Tuesday and destroyed several houses, said Yusuf Sani, head of the Jigawa State Emergency Management Agency, in a statement issued in Dutse, the state capital.
“Six people lost their lives and 65 others who sustained injuries in the disaster have been hospitalized,” Sani said.
He said the agency was conducting a damage assessment exercise to ascertain the extent of destruction caused by the disaster.
According to the official, some displaced people took refuge with their relatives in the area, pending a temporary shelter would be provided for them by the agency. — NNN-XINHUA
