Suzuki Thilawa Auto Plant Suspended Production In Myanmar Due To Import Difficulties

YANGON, Jul 9 (NNN-MNA) – Suzuki Thilawa Motor factory, suspended its production in Myanmar because of the difficulties in importing auto parts, an executive of the auto plant said.

“We are facing severe shortages of materials in the production sector. We won’t be able to manufacture anymore without materials,” U Myo Min Tun, managing officer from Suzuki Thilawa Motor, said.

Myanmar has given priority to the import of essential goods, like medicine and medical equipment. Auto parts are not among the import priorities.

“Non-essential goods like luxury goods are banned to be imported,” Zaw Min Tun, spokesperson of Myanmar’s State Administration Council, said, as a measure to stop outflow of foreign currencies.

“Auto factories in Myanmar temporarily suspended their production this month, due to import difficulties,” Soe Tun, chairman of Myanmar Automobile Manufacturers And Distributors Association (MAMDA), said.
