At least 22 civilians killed in Burkina Faso attack

OUAGADOUGOU, July 5 (NNN-Xinhua) — At least 22 civilians were killed in an attack by gunmen in the north-west of Burkina Faso, the government said.

“The provisional toll of the cowardly and barbarous attack stood at 22 killed, several injured and material losses,” the government said in a statement.

The Sunday attack was perpetrated in the commune of Bourasso, province of Kossi, Boucle du Mouhoun region, in the north-west of the country.

According to the governor of Boucle du Mouhoun region, defense and security forces have been deployed in the area to carry out sweeping and security operations.

Security in Burkina Faso has worsened since 2015 as attacks have killed more than 1,000 people and displaced more than 1.9 million others in the West African nation. — NNN-XINHUA
