KUALA LUMPUR, July 4 (NNN-Bernama) — Algeria’s ambassador to Malaysia Saad Maandi said Algeria is still keen on the idea of implementing news exchanges and related cooperation between the Algeria Press Service (APS) and the Malaysian National News Agency (Bernama).
“Our wish is to implement the agreement in order to strengthen our people-to-people contact through cooperation between the two agencies.
“I believe these two agencies are the bridge between our two functions and it will help the people to get to know each other and create a better understanding between the two countries.
Maandi said this to Bernama after he paid a courtesy call on Bernama’s Chairman, Senator Datuk Ras Adiba Radzi, at its headquarters here, Monday (picture).
The news exchange agreement was signed during former prime minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad’s official visit to Algeria in August 2003 during which several agreements were also signed concerning bilateral trade, information and communication technology.
It was hoped that the agreement would serve to bring people from Malaysia and Algeria closer through a more extensive flow of news and information about one another.
Maandi noted that Bernama plays an important role in disseminating more information, especially in connecting people through greater news coverage about the two countries. (photoBERNAMA)
