NEW DELHI, Jun 29 (NNN-PTI) – Four people died, after a helicopter of the Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC), made an emergency landing in the Arabian Sea, off the coast of India’s financial capital, Mumbai, yesterday.
The ill-fated helicopter was carrying nine persons, including two pilots and seven staff members of ONGC. Apart from the deaths, the other five are said to be doing well.
“All nine persons onboard the helicopter were rescued. Unfortunately, four of them, brought unconscious to the Mumbai base and taken to the hospital, lost the battle of life. ONGC deeply mourns this loss,” tweeted ONGC.
The helicopter mishap occurred about 111 km west of Mumbai, near ONGC’s Sagar Kiran offshore rig.
An offshore supply vessel, named “Malviya 16” was diverted to assist in rescue operations. An Indian Coast Guard (ICG) aircraft, dropped a life raft near the location and another ship was also on its way to aid the rescue operations, said media reports.– NNN-PTI
