President of Nigeria Muhammadu Buhari |
KIGALI (Rwanda), June 25 (NNN-AGENCIES) — Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari, has assured that he would not be contesting for a third term as he plans to leave office on May 29, 2023.
He made this known in Kigali, Rwanda, during the 26th edition of the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM), a biennial gathering of Commonwealth countries.
Speaking to the British Prime Minister Boris Johnson, on the sidelines of the conference, Buhari noted that the first person, who tried to extend his tenure in the person of former President Olusegun Obasanjo, did not succeed at it.
Meanwhile, Buhari expressed his gratitude to the British government for their security assistance to Nigeria, but asked that they start by supporting Libya.
Libya has been faced with a civil war after 42 years of rule by its Libyan leader, Muammar Gadaffi.
During Buhari’s visit to Kigali, he toured the permanent exhibitions at the Memorial and laid a wreath at the mass graves, where more than 250,000 victims of the genocide were buried. — NNN-AGENCIES
