ULAN BATOR, Jun 25 (NNN-XINHUA) – Host nation Mongolia, grabbed eight medals, including two gold, on the first day of the Ulan Bator Grand Slam of judo, which started here yesterday.
On the first day, matches of the women’s 48kg, 52kg and 57kg categories, as well as, men’s 60kg and 66kg categories were held.
In the men’s 66kg category, Mongolia’s Battogtokh Erkhembayar, his compatriots, Gunjinlkham Sod-Erdene and Yondonperenlei Baskhuu, took gold, silver and bronze medals respectively. Another bronze medal went to Yago Abuladze, who participated in the event as a neutral athlete, under the flag of the International Judo Federation (IJF).
In the men’s 60kg category, Ryuju Nagayama from Japan won the gold, while Yang Yung-wei of Chinese Taipei took the silver. Bronze medals were shared by South Korean Lee Ha-rim and Mongolia’s Enkhtaivan Sumiyabazar.
In the women’s 57kg category, Mongolia’n Lkhagvatogoo Enkhriilen beat Daria Kurbonmamadova, a neutral athlete, to take the gold.
The Ulan Bator Grand Slam 2022, is the first qualifying round for the Paris 2024 Olympics, and has a total prize money of 154,000 euros.
