ALGIERS, April 4 (NNN-Xinhua) — The Constitutional Council in Algeria on Wednesday confirmed the resignation of Abdelaziz Bouteflika from presidency, official APS news agency reported.
The Council will notify later in the day the parliament of the vacancy of presidency in accordance to Article 102 of the Constitution, APS said.
Abdelkader Bensalah, speaker of the Council of the Nation, upper house of parliament, is due to assume the charge of Head of the State for 90 days, during which presidential elections should be held.
A day earlier, Bouteflika announced his resignation as President of Algeria following massive protests against his decision to seek re-election.
