Pakistan central bank says it has not run out of US dollars

NEW DELHI, June 22 (NNN-Bernama) — Pakistan’s central bank said it is still making payments for imports and has not run out of foreign exchange.

“It is clarified that as of 10th June 2022, SBP liquid foreign reserves stood at (US) $8.99 billion. These do not include gold reserves, and are fully usable for all purposes,” the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) said on Twitter on Tuesday.

It dismissed rumours that its foreign currency reserves had dried up or were not usable and that it had stopped making payments for imports.

“It is further clarified that SBP has not stopped import payments and commercial banks have sufficient (US dollar) liquidity to execute these payments. Indeed, import payments of around US$4.7 billion have been executed through the interbank market during the month so far,” the SBP said.
