Four Missing After Boat Capsized In India’s Flood-Hit Assam State

NEW DELHI, Jun 20 (NNN-PTI) – Four people went missing in a river, when a boat capsized in India’s flood-hit Assam state, a local police official said, yesterday.

The incident occurred at around noon. There were nine people onboard the ill-fated boat.

“Five persons swam to the river bank, while four are still missing. We have called the National Disaster Response Force, which is carrying out an extensive search in the entire area and downstream,” Dibrugarh Superintendent of Police, Shwetank Mishra, said.

According to media reports, over 60 people have died in the raging floods this year, as around 3.1 million people have been affected across 32 districts in the state.

The Indian Army has deployed 11 contingents to assist in rescue and relief operations, in various districts, and has so far evacuated 4,500 people to safety.– NNN-PTI
