KUALA LUMPUR, June 20 (Bernama) — The UMW Group’s automotive sales improved in May 2022 as both UMW Toyota Motor (“UMWT”) and UMW’s associate company, Perodua, registered healthy sales. The Group delivered 26,480 units in May 2022 compared with 25,568 units sold in May 2021 despite the shorter working month due to the Hari Raya holidays as it continues to fulfil its encouraging outstanding order book. The Group delivered 143,151 units for the first five months of 2022, a 10% increase compared with the same period last year.
UMWT registered sales of 7,579 units in May 2022, consistent with the 7,595 units it sold in May 2021. Toyota Vios, Yaris, Corolla Cross and Hilux were among its best selling models in the month of May 2022. Year-to-date May 2022, UMWT sold 36,972 units, 9% higher than the 34,026 units sold in the corresponding period of 2021. UMWT aims to sell 73,000 units in 2022 and as at May, has achieved 51% of its sales target for the year. To further strengthen its order book, UMWT is offering special promotions for the purchase of the Vios and Yaris as part of its mid-year sales campaign.
