TEHRAN, Iran, April 3 (NNN-IRNA) – People celebrated the 13th day of the Iranian New Year, officially called Nature Day, in Iran on Tuesday (yesterday).
The occasion, this year, followed days of massive destruction that heavy downpours and floods inflicted, on to the agricultural sector, infrastructures, as well as, to the residential rural and urban areas over the past two weeks.
Floods and landslides have also killed at least 49 people and injured hundreds across Iran since March 19.
On Tuesday, people in most cities gathered in parks and greeneries in protected spaces, as the authorities warned them over the past days to avoid riversides or travelling afar to unprotected areas.
As a national tradition since ancient times, people throw away the green sprouts, known as Sabzeh, which are prepared for the first day of new year on March 21.
Another popular tradition of the occasion is knotting blades of grass by young unmarried girls hoping to marry soon and to express their wish for good fortune in life.
While the young girls are singing and knotting the blades of grass, the young boys play games and sports.– NNN-IRNA
