BANGKOK, June 11 (NNN-Bernama) — US State Department Counsellor Derek Chollet and Thai Deputy Prime Minister Don Pramudwinai had discussed ways to strenghten Thailand-US strategic partnership, both at the bilateral and regional levels.

In a statement, Thailand’s Foreign Ministry said the visiting Chollet on Friday paid a courtesy call on Don – who is also the Foreign Minister – where they also exchanged views on current global and regional developments.

“Both sides also exchanged views on the situation in Myanmar, and Thailand’s role as well as ASEAN’s efforts.

“They explored possibilities and ways to enhance cooperation between Thailand and the US in providing humanitarian assistance to the Myanmar people along the Thailand-Myanmar border, as prioritised by both governments,” it said.

Chollet and Don were pleased with the increasing dynamism in the Thailand-US bilateral relations.

Meanwhile, in his tweet, Chollet said he had an excellent meeting with Don about US-Thai cooperation.

“We agree the US-ASEAN Special Summit (held in May) was a major success and the Indo-Pacific Economic Framework will increase prosperity for our countries,” he said.

Chollet is on a trip to Thailand, Singapore and Brunei starting June 7 to 14.

In Singapore, Chollet will attend the Shangri-La Dialogue and participate in a panel discussion on the conflict in Myanmar with senior officials.

In Brunei, he will meet with Foreign Minister II Erywan Yusof and other senior officials, as well as civil society leaders.
