Turkish Ruling Party Objects To Istanbul’s Voting Results

ISTANBUL, Turkey, April 3 (NNN-ANADOLU) – Turkey’s ruling party, on Tuesday, raised objections to local election results in Istanbul, over what it calls, some irregularities and mistakes detected during vote counting.

“We have filed our objections with the electoral authorities in 39 districts, as of 3:00 p.m. (1200 GMT) today,” the Justice and Development Party (AKP) Istanbul district chief, Bayram Senocak, told reporters in the city.

The election boards of all the 39 districts in Istanbul have a two-day decision-making period, according to Turkey’s Supreme Election Board.

As Turkey’s biggest city, Istanbul is seeing a tight race between Ekrem Imamoglu, the mayoral candidate from the main opposition Republican People’s Party, and AKP’s Binali Yildirim, a former prime minister and former speaker of parliament.

Imamoglu has won 48.79 percent of the votes, as against 48.52 percent for Yildirim, according to the results.

The AKP lost two other big cities, the capital Ankara and the western city of Izmir, in local elections held on Sunday.– NNN-ANADOLU
