Malaysia’s IPI Climbs 4.6 Percent In Apr

KUALA LUMPUR, Jun 11 (NNN-BERNAMA) – The Industrial Production Index (IPI) in Malaysia, increased 4.6 percent in Apr, from a year ago, steered by the manufacturing and electricity sectors, official data showed, yesterday.

The expansion of the IPI was contributed by the manufacturing and electricity sectors, which increased 6.2 percent and 1.5 percent, respectively, the Department of Statistics Malaysia (DOSM) said, in a statement.

Meanwhile, the mining sector shrank 0.1 percent from a year earlier.

On a month-on-month basis, the IPI deteriorated by 4.8 percent as a result of the fall in all components of indices.

For the period of Jan to Apr, the IPI recorded an expansion of 4.5 percent, as compared to the same period of the previous year.

The rise was supported by the manufacturing index, which rose 6.3 percent, and electricity index that grew 3.1 percent.

Meanwhile, the mining index for the period shrank 1.4 percent.– NNN-BERNAMA
