SINGAPORE, April 2 (NNN-CNA) – Singapore Airlines has grounded two Boeing 787-10 aircraft, due to the deterioration of engines, which was found in routine inspections, according to a statement issued, Tuesday, by the company.
According to the statement, some of the Rolls-Royce Trent 1000 TEN engines, on Singapore Airlines’ Boeing 787-10 fleet were found to have “premature blade deterioration.”
Pending engine replacements, two SIA 787-10 aircraft have been removed from service, it added.
The statement showed that the airlines has been in consultation with Rolls-Royce and completed all of its engine inspection on its 787-10 fleet, and a remaining check will be completed on a 787-9 with its subsidiary, Scoot Airlines, by April 3 (tomorrow).
Singapore Airlines said, it is operating other aircraft for these flights to minimise schedule disruption to its customers. However, it admits that as capacity may be lower on the substitute aircraft, some customers may be affected.
The grounding followed the suspension of all Boeing 737 MAX flights in its airspace in Singapore, on March 12, by the Civil Aviation Authority of Singapore, in the wake of two fatal accidents involving Boeing 737 MAX aircraft in less than five months.– NNN-CNA
