Earthquake Shakes Afghanistan’s Takhar, Kunduz Provinces

TALUQAN, Afghanistan, May 25 (NNN-ANA) – A relatively powerful earthquake jolted Afghanistan’s Takhar and Kunduz provinces last night, locals said.

According to the U.S. Geological Survey, an earthquake with a magnitude of 5.0 jolted 63 km SE of Farkhar district yesterday.

“I was sitting in my shop when the tremble jolted the area, and all the goods in the shop fell down and scattered, I scared and escaped the shop,” shopkeeper Abdul Haq from Farkhar district said.

According to locals, the quake was also felt in neighbouring Kunduz province, but there was no report on casualties.

In the meantime, Mohammad Zarif, an official from the Farkhar district administration, said that, authorities had begun to collect information on possible property damages, due to the tremble.– NNN-ANA
