MAZAR-I-SHARIF, Afghanistan, May 25 (NNN-ANA) – Security forces discovered 40 pieces of assault rifles and arrested five people, during operations in parts of Afghanistan’s northern Balkh province, provincial police spokesman, Mohammad Asif Waziri, said, yesterday.
Addressing a press briefing here, Waziri added that, the security forces had discovered the weapons from different parts of the province, during a series of operations launched recently, and arrested five people in this connection.
The security forces have also taken into custody 65 people, on charges of involvement in criminal activities over the past one month, the official went on to say.
The Taliban-run administration vowed to collect arms from irresponsible armed men, as part of efforts to ensure law and order across the country. So far, thousands of pieces of weapons, ranging from AK-47 to tank and anti-aircraft guns, have been sized from different provinces.– NNN-ANA
