Road Accident Kills Nine At Uzbek-Kyrgyz Border Checkpoint

TASHKENT, May 22 (NNN-KNA) – A road accident killed nine people at a border checkpoint between Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan, the press service of Uzbek Internal Affairs Ministry said, yesterday.

A trailer, loaded with a bulldozer, “had a brake failure” and rammed through 12 cars that were waiting to cross the border checkpoint, located between Kadamzhai district of the Batken region of Kyrgyzstan and the Uzbek enclave of Sokh in the Fergana region.

One victim of the fatal accident was a citizen of Uzbekistan, while the other eight were Kyrgyz nationals, the press service said, adding that, seven people were also injured and five of them have been hospitalised.

The truck was travelling at a speed of 70-80 km per hour, according to the authorities.– NNN-KNA
