Sudan: Pres Bashar renews commitment to cease-fire in all conflict zones

KHARTOUM, April 2 (NNN-XINHUA) — Sudanese President Omar al-Bashir renewed commitment to a cease-fire in all conflict areas in Sudan.

“We renew our commitment to a cease-fire and our firm commitment to dialogues with any party,” said al-Bashir when addressing the Sudanese parliament Monday.

He said peace remains a national issue, calling on all political forces to participate in the peace process to achieve it as a goal.

“We earlier declared that 2019 will be the year of peace and we should all work together to achieve this noble goal,” he noted.

Al-Bashir, meanwhile, acknowledged the economic challenges facing Sudan, which prompted popular protests, saying “the economic challenges have affected sectors of our people.”

He said that the coming phase will witness wide measures to tackle the economic conditions and prepare the arena through dialogue to achieve the aspired national transition and create a suitable environment for production.

He renewed his call for the political forces to join the political dialogues to establish a wide base enabling all parties to sit at the table of dialogue.

Al-Bashir further vowed to fight corruption through effective and deterrent laws.

Since Dec. 19 last year, Sudan has been witnessing popular protests over the deteriorating economic conditions and price hikes of basic commodities. –NNN-XINHUA
