Indian Auto Companies’ Apr Sales Impacted By Supply Chain Challenges

MUMBAI, May 3 (NNN-PTI) – Indian auto companies are facing supply chain issues, with respect to electronic components, that has affected their monthly sales production in Apr, according to the filing with bourses by the auto companies yesterday.

Mahindra & Mahindra reported a 16.5 percent decline in Apr sales, over the preceding month of March.

However, its Apr sales of 45,640 units was up by 25 percent from the same month a year ago, as last year, the sales were marred with the subsequent phases of the pandemic.

The shortage of electronic components had a minor impact on the production of vehicles during the month, said India’s largest car manufacturer, Maruti Suzuki, which reported a 10 percent decline in its Apr domestic sales at 121,995 units.

“The supply chain issues remain a challenge for the industry, which is impacting the ability to meet growing demand,” said Yuichi Murata, Director of Marketing and Sales of Honda Cars India, which reported a 13 percent decline in Apr sales, over the same month last year.

The only silver lining was India’s Tata Motors Apr sales for passenger vehicles, rising by 66 percent to 41,587 units, from the same month a year ago.– NNN-PTI
