Brunei Reports 102 New COVID-19 Cases

BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN, May 1 (NNN-ANN) – Brunei reported 102 new COVID-19 cases yesterday, bringing the national tally to 141,850.

As a country of 420,000 people, Brunei has recorded fewer than 1,000 new cases for 38 straight days since March 24, after the daily increase during the third wave of infections reached its peak on March 3 with 4,885 cases.

As of Apr 29, 65.3 percent of Brunei’s population have received three doses of COVID-19 vaccines.

COVID-19 vaccines from Pfizer, BioNTech, Moderna, AstraZeneca, and China’s Sinopharm are administered in Brunei.

Currently, 740 active cases are being treated and 140,892 recoveries have been reported.

Minister of Home Affairs, Haji Awang Abu Bakar announced earlier that, it is no longer mandatory for people to wear face masks outdoors, adding that, the decision was made due to a decline of COVID-19 infections and high vaccination rates.

However, mask wearing is still required inside public buildings and encouraged in crowded places, he said.

Meanwhile, Brunei’s Prime Minister’s Office announced yesterday, the temporary suspension of cross-border activities will be extended for 15 more days from today to May 15.– NNN-ANN
