At Least Nine Killed In Twin Blasts In Afghanistan

MAZAR-I-SHARIF, Afghanistan, Apr 29 (NNN-ANA) – At least nine civilians were killed and 13 others wounded, in twin blasts yesterday in Mazar-i-Sharif, capital of Afghanistan’s northern Balkh province, provincial police spokesman confirmed.

“The blasts occurred in a span of short time, roughly at 7:00 p.m. local time in Police Districts (PD) 3 and PD 10 of the city,” spokesman, Mohammad Asif Waziri, said.

The first explosion hit a passenger bus at a bus stop, while the second one came 10 minutes later in a separate location, he said.

The nature of the blasts were not immediately known, the source said, adding, investigations into the incidents were still on.

No group has claimed responsibility for the attacks, so far.

In recent weeks, the war-torn country has been hit by a series of terror attacks, reportedly staged by militants of the Daesh group, opposing the Taliban-led caretaker government.

Last Friday, 33 people were killed and 43 others wounded, after a bomb attack hit a mosque, in neighbouring Kunduz province.– NNN-ANA
