Tunis Arab Summit: Arab leaders reject any military intervention in Libya

TUNIS, Tunsia, April 1 (NNN-TAP) – Arab leaders reaffirmed at the closing of the 30th Ordinary Session of the Arab Summit in Tunis, their commitment to the unity and sovereignty of Libya and rejected any military intervention in this country.

In the “Tunis Declaration” issued on Sunday, Arab leaders called for speeding up efforts to achieve a comprehensive and consensus-based political settlement in Libya in a dialogue that brings together all protagonists under the auspices of the United Nations.

The objective is to restore security and stability in this country and put an end to the suffering of the population.

In addition, Arab leaders said they support the action plan proposed by United Nations envoy to Libya Ghassan Salamé, and approved by the Security Council of the UN organisation.

They welcomed any initiative to facilitate the implementation different parts of this plan.

They also praised the role of Libya’s neighboring countries, citing in this regard, the initiative of President Beji Caid Essebsi, launched in co-ordination with Algeria and Egypt.

That tripartite initiative aims to help Libyans overcome their differences and reach a comprehensive political settlement.

In the same vein, they called for backing efforts to eliminate terrorist organisations that threaten the security of Libya and neighbouring countries, according to them.
