MELAKA, March 31 (NNN- Bernama) — The Federal Agricultural Marketing Authority (FAMA) is targeting RM2.5 million sales from agro-food products through the www.agrobazaar.com.my online platform compared with RM1.5 million in 2018.
Director-general Datuk Ahmad Ishak said the authority expects the number of agro-entrepreneurs or businesses using the portal to increase from 6,820 in 2019 from last year’s 4,820.
He said the online sales medium had received good response from consumers because online shopping is more convenient, faster and provides delivery services.
“Currently, there are 11,800 agro-products on sale in the agrobazaar online portal and there is increasing demand coming from residents or consumers in the Klang Valley.
The products sold on the portal have been filtered in terms of quality as we place emphasis on this aspect to ensure consumers purchase quality goods in line with the prices paid,” he told reporters after the official launch of the FAMA Fest South 2019 here today.
The five-day event began on Thursday.
The event was officiated by Melaka state legal advisor Datuk Mohamad Abazafree Abbas and also present was state FAMA director, Che Samudin Hassan.
FAMA Fest is seeing the participation of 115 entrepreneurs from Melaka, Johor and Negeri Sembilan, selling 1,456 products and aims for a sales value of RM1 million from throughout the carnival.
Elaborating further, Ahmad said FAMA plans to expand the agrobazaar online platform to the international stage, but needs to looks at various aspects, to ensure it can compete with other products and attract consumers there to Malaysia’s agricultural produce.
He also said FAMA needs to ensure the local market can be developed to the point of attracting more consumers to buy the agro-food products.
