NEW DELHI, Apr 18 (NNN-PTI) – At least five people were killed and seven others were injured yesterday, after a vehicle carrying them lost control, in the north-eastern state of Assam, police said.
The accident took place at Tokobari-Gohpur, in Biswanath district, about 282 km north-east of Dispur, the capital city of Assam.
The victims were part of a troupe that had travelled for performance at a function, during the night, in view of the Bihu festival in the state.
The injured were sent to hospitals. Police said that, the driver lost control over the vehicle and it overturned on the road.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed grief over the loss of lives in the accident.
Deadly road accidents are common in India, often caused due to overloading, bad condition of roads and reckless driving.– NNN-PTI
