DHAKA, Apr 18 (NNN-BSS) – State-owned Bangladesh Telecommunications Company Limited (BTCL), yesterday launched a high-speed internet-enabled prepaid phone service across the country.
The service was launched under the company’s Modernisation of Telecommunication Network Project, which Chinese telecom giant, ZTE Corporation, has been implementing in the country.
Bangladeshi Posts, Telecommunications and Information Technology Minister, Mustafa Jabbar, inaugurated the phone service at a ceremony in Dhaka.
BTCL Managing Director, Rafiqul Matin said, the prepaid phone service will be available across the country.
He said, the Modernisation of Telecommunication Network Project, scheduled to be completed in June next year, paved the way for launching the internet-enabled prepaid phone service.
Speaking at the ceremony, Chairman of Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission, Shyam Sunder Sikder, expressed his thanks to the Chinese company for its support to modernise the network of BTCL.
In his speech, Jabbar said, this is a memorable day for Bangladesh, as another core commitment of “Digital Bangladesh,” which is to bring every home under the digital network, is fulfilled.
He said, many of the steps taken to build a digital Bangladesh have already been implemented with support from China and other development partners.– NNN-BSS
