Several Policemen Injured In Clashes In Indian Capital

NEW DELHI, Apr 17 (NNN-PTI) – Violent clashes broke out between two groups, in the Indian capital yesterday, in which several policemen were injured, the local police said.

Vehicles were burnt as the mobs indulged in throwing stones and glass-bottles at each other.

Delhi Chief Minister, Arvind Kejriwal, spoke to Lieutenant Governor, Anil Baijal, to take stock of the situation.

The clashes erupted in the Jahangirpuri area of north-west Delhi, when a religious procession of the Hindu community was being carried out on the occasion of a festival.

The Delhi Police have set up teams to investigate into the clashes. The situation continues to be tense but under control, as contingents of police and para-military forces have been deployed, to control subsequent fallouts of the clashes.

The Delhi Police have been kept on high alert, in other parts of the capital. Chief Minister, Kejriwal, appealed to the people to maintain peace and harmony.– NNN-PTI
