KAMPALA, April 113 (NNN-AGENCIES) — Ugandan police are investigating a drowning incident in which a boat that was heading to Mawotto landing site in Mukono district capsized, killing two of its occupants.
Kampala Metropolitan Police deputy spokesperson Luke Owoyesigyire said the tragic incident happened on Sunday (April 10) at about 8pm in Mpatta sub-county.
“It is alleged that the boat carrying matooke, cassava and five people was sailing from Luzira and heading to Mawotto landing site,” he said.
“However, along the way to Mawotto, it capsized and two people drowned while three were rescued.”
“Full particulars of both the survivors and the deceased persons are yet to be established,” added the Police spokesperson.
The bodies of the two dead men were retrieved on Monday by the Marine Police and later taken to Kawolo mortuary.
“Investigations into the incident are underway, ” said Owoyesigyire. — NNN-AGENCIES
