Australia’s Royal Easter Show Closed Following Fatal Stabbing

SYDNEY, Apr 12 (NNN-AGENCIES) – A large section of Sydney’s famous Royal Easter Show has been closed today, after a brawl in the park turned fatal, casting a dark shadow over the iconic Easter event, enjoyed by children and adults alike.

Police officers were called to the scene at around 8:00 p.m. local time last night, after a large-scale brawl broke out.

The altercation ended with a 17-year-old being stabbed to death and another suffering stab wounds to the leg.

Organising body of the show, the Royal Agricultural Society (RAS), of the state of New South Wales, announced this morning that, any ticket holders, who no longer wanted to attend, in light of the events, would be offered a full refund.

“The RAS is shocked and saddened, following the tragic loss of life last night, as a result of a fatal stabbing in the adult carnival, and our sympathies are extended to the family and loved ones of the deceased person,” read a statement issued by the RAS.

Condemning the incident, they said, they would assist the local police with investigation. Police have detained the perpetrator and have turned the section of the grounds into a crime scene.

The Sydney Royal Easter Show has been held since 1823 and is a staple of Australian culture. It involves an agricultural show, amusement park and fair.
