| The country is meeting its targets in the fight against HIV |
WINDHOEK, April 10 (NNN-AGENCIES) — Minister of health and social services Kalumbi Shangula says Namibia has made great strides towards the achievement of UNAIDS’ HIV targets.
Shangula said this at the opening ceremony of the World Health Fair in Windhoek.
The minister said the targets are that 95% of people living with HIV know their status, 95% who know their status are receiving treatment and that 95% of those being treated have suppressed viral loads.
He said Namibia is currently standing on 94%/97%/93% with regard to these targets.
The minister said these successes are attributed to various interventions, such as the test-and-treat policy.
He said this has significantly boosted efforts toward achieving epidemic control.
Shangula said the country is also making an effort to provide the multi-month dispensing of HIV medicine to ensure HIV care is not interrupted during events such as Covid-19 lockdowns. — NNN-AGENCIES
