NEW DELHI, Apr 7 (NNN-PTI) – India Metrological Department (IMD), said that, the heatwave spell, was likely to continue, over northwest and central India, during the next five days.
The current heatwave spell started mainly over west Rajasthan and adjoining areas of Gujarat state and west Madhya Pradesh, from Mar 27. It further extended to east Rajasthan, east Madhya Pradesh, south Haryana, Delhi and southern parts of Uttar Pradesh, by Mar 29, with maximum temperatures recorded in the range of 40-42 degrees Celsius, over most of stations in these states, said IMD in a statement.
The IMD predicted rise in maximum temperatures by about two degrees Celsius very likely, over many parts of Northwest and Central India, during the next three days.
The IMD warned that, heatwave could lead to moderate health concern for vulnerable people, like infants, the elderly and people with chronic diseases.
“Avoid heat exposure – keep cool. Avoid dehydration. Drink sufficient water, even if not thirsty. wear lightweight, light-colored, loose, cotton clothes and cover the head by using cloth, hat or umbrella etc.,” IMD suggested.
It advised, people should take oral rehydration salts, homemade drinks, lemon water, or buttermilk, to keep themselves hydrated.– NNN-PTI
