Seven Killed, 22 Injured After Mini-Van Skids Off Road In India’s Tamil Nadu

NEW DELHI, Apr 3 (NNN-PTI) – At least seven people were killed and 22 others injured, some of them critically, yesterday, after a mini-van rammed into an electric pole and skidded off the hilly road, in the southern Indian state of Tamil Nadu, officials said.

The accident took place in Javadhumalai area of Tirupathur district, about 236 km west of Chennai, the capital city of Tamil Nadu.

“Seven people were killed and 22 others injured today, after a mini-van toppled in Javadhumalai area here,” a local government official at Tirupathur deputy commissioner’s office said. “The accident happened after the driver lost control over the vehicle and hit an electric pole, following which it skidded off the hilly road.”

Reports said the passengers in the vehicle were going to a nearby village to participate in a local festival.

“The injured have been hospitalised,” the official said.

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister, M.K. Stalin, expressed grief over the accident and extended condolences to the bereaved families.

A government spokesman said, Stalin directed the district administration to extend all help to the injured, besides announcing monetary relief for the victims.– NNN-PTI
