Pakistan PM’s security raised over assassination plot, says information minister

NEW DELHI, April 1 (NNN-Bernama) — Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan’s security has been reinforced after intelligence reports of an assassination plot, the country’s information minister said on Friday.

“After these reports, the prime minister’s security has been raised as per the government’s decision,” Information Minister Fawad Chaudhry said in a tweet.

Imran’s government is facing a no-confidence motion in parliament on Sunday.

The Pakistan leader has described the opposition-led campaign against him as a foreign-fuellled conspiracy to thwart Pakistan from pursuing what he calls an independent foreign policy.

Imran on Thursday chaired a meeting of the powerful National Security Committee (NSC), which discussed the interference in Pakistan’s internal affairs by an unnamed country.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs said it has issued “the requisite demarches” to the meddling country through diplomatic channels as decided by the NSC.
