KUALA LUMPUR, March 30 (NNN-Bernama) — Qatar and Malaysia will continue to strengthen bilateral relations to achieve mutual goals and interests at the highest level, says the Amir of Qatar Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani.
Sheikh Tamim in a tweet said there were many similarities and stances shared by Qatar and Malaysia.
“Today, I discussed with the honourable Ismail Sabri Yaakob, Prime Minister of Malaysia, the opportunity to strengthen bilateral cooperation between the two beloved countries and we also discussed some developments in our region and the world at large,” he said.
Ismail Sabri was in Doha, Qatar for a three-day official visit till today.
It was his first official visit to Qatar after being sworn in as the ninth Prime Minister on Aug 21 last year.
Among the main agenda of the visit was to strengthen the long-established cooperation between the two countries, besides charting the path towards economic collaboration as well as post-pandemic recovery efforts and exchanging views on international issues of mutual interest.
Doha-Kuala Lumpur ties were established in 1974, and there has been a significant surge in the trade value between the two countries recently, with the first two months of this year registering an increase of 30.9 per cent to RM610 million (US$144.9 million), compared to RM470 million (US$111.7 million) for the same period in 2021.
