Tropical Storm Asani Crosses Myanmar’s Delta Region

YANGON, Mar 23 (NNN-MNA) – Tropical storm Asani, has crossed Myanmar’s delta region yesterday, starting from Haiggyikyun, an island located at the mouth of the Pathein River, according to the country’s state weather department.

“Some 4,600 people in the region were already evacuated,” U Win Shwe, deputy director-general of the disaster management department, under the Ministry of Social Welfare, Relief and Resettlement, said.

The tropical deep depression would continue to move along the delta coasts near Pathein, towards south Rakhine coasts, in the next 24 hours, said the Department of Meteorology and Hydrology.

The department forecast heavy rainfalls, maximum sustained winds of 45 mph and wave heights of about 9-13 feet, in the next 24 hours, due to the crossing of the tropical storm.– NNN-MNA
