ISLAMABAD, Mar 22 (NNN-APP) – The Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) and the Islamic Development Bank (IsDB), signed here yesterday, the Charter of Humanitarian Trust Fund for Afghanistan, to raise donations for the people of Afghanistan suffering a humanitarian crisis.
Secretary-General of the OIC, Hissein Brahim Taha and IsDB President, Muhammed Sulaiman Al Jasser inked the charter, witnessed by Pakistani Foreign Minister, Shah Mahmood Qureshi, according to the Foreign Ministry of Pakistan.
Addressing the signing ceremony, Qureshi said, the dire humanitarian situation in Afghanistan warranted urgent action, requesting OIC members, Islamic Financial Institutions, donors and other international partners to make donations to the trust fund, the foreign ministry said, in a ststement.
The OIC should play a leading role, in delivery of humanitarian assistance to Afghanistan, Qureshi said, adding that, there is a need to redouble the efforts, in view of the urgent and ascendant humanitarian needs of the Afghan people.– NNN-APP
