NEW DELHI, Mar 19 (NNN-PTI) – Four labourers were killed and one went missing yesterday, after a mudslide hit them, in the southern Indian state of Kerala, officials said.
Two labourers have been rescued from the spot and hospitalised immediately.
The mudslide buried the labourers at a construction site in Kalamassery, near Kochi of Ernakulam district, about 217 km north of Thiruvananthapuram, the capital city of Kerala.
The victims were identified as migrant workers from the eastern Indian state of West Bengal.
“The mudslide took place at a construction site at Electronics City in Kalamassery-Kochi,” Ernakulam district collector, Jafar Malik told media. “One worker is still trapped under the debris.”
Authorities are using heavy machinery and earthmovers to trace the missing.
According to police, sniffer dogs have also been brought to the spot to help with the rescue work.
Authorities have ordered a probe into the accident, to ascertain the reason that led to the killing of four workers.– NNN-PTI
