KABUL, Mar 19 (NNN-ANA) – Two civilians were killed and three others wounded, as an explosive device went off, in Afghanistan’s eastern Paktia province, yesterday, the state-run news agency, Bakhtar, reported.
A mortar shell left over from the past wars exploded in Sarokhil area of Gardi Siri district, killing two people on the spot, and injuring three others, the news agency said.
All the victims are civilians, Bakhtar added, without providing more details.
War-torn Afghanistan is reportedly one of the most mine-contaminated countries in the world, as countless people, mostly children, are either killed or maimed annually, due to blasts of unexploded devices left over from past wars in the country.– NNN-ANA
