OWERRI (Imo, Nigeria), March 17 (NNN-Xinhua) — Two prison officers were shot dead on Wednesday in an ambush in Nigeria’s southern state of Imo, a spokesperson said.
The two officers were on patrol in the state’s Okigwe area when they were ambushed by gunmen, Goodluck Uboegbulem, spokesperson for the Nigerian Correctional Service, told reporters in Owerri, the state capital.
He said the service is yet to get a full report on the incident, as the motive of the attack was unclear.
There have been a series of gunmen attacks in Nigeria in recent months, leading to deaths and kidnappings. — NNN-XINHUA
