Armenia’s new President Vahagn Khachaturyan attends his inauguration ceremony in Yerevan
YEREVAN, March 14 (NNN-Xinhua) — Vahagn Khachaturyan has sworn in on Sunday as Armenian president during a special session of the parliament in Yerevan.
The inauguration ceremony was attended by Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, foreign ambassadors and NGO representatives.
Khachaturyan was elected by parliament on March 3 as the fifth president in the country’s history. According to Armenian constitution, his term of office is seven years.
The 62-year-old politician, who served as the minister of high technology previously, was nominated by the ruling My Step Alliance.
The former president Armen Sarkissian resigned on Jan. 23, saying he did not have the necessary power to deal with the country’s political problems. — NNN-XINHUA
