Workers Trapped In South India’s Coal Mine

NEW DELHI, Mar 8 (NNN-PTI) – At least five workers were trapped inside a coal mine, when its roof collapsed, in the Peddapalli district of India’s southern state of Telangana yesterday, confirmed an official of the coal mine, over the phone.

While two have been rescued safely, efforts are still on to bring out the rest.

“The incident occurred in the morning. Rescue work is still underway. Those trapped inside the coalmine had earlier given indications about them being alive. Their fate would be known once we reach out to them physically,” claimed the official.

All workers were miners of the Singareni Collieries Company Limited (SCCL). The coal mine is part of the Adriyala Longwall Project.

The incident reportedly occurred, when the workers went inside the coalmine to fix the roof, which eventually collapsed over them.– NNN-PTI
