Pakistani PM Announces Food Subsidy Programme For 20 Million Households

ISLAMABAD, Mar 8 (NNN-APP) – Pakistani Prime Minister, Imran Khan, yesterday launched a food subsidy programme, to provide a monthly subsidy of 30 percent on daily use commodities, to 20 million households.

Under the targeted subsidy for the middle and lower middle class, the prices of flour, cooking oil among others, will be considerably reduced, the Prime Minister’s Office said, in a statement.

Addressing the launching ceremony of the Ehsaas (compassion) Riyayat Ration Scheme, Khan appreciated the Ehsaas programme and said that its focus is to alleviate poverty in the country.

Highlighting the prospects of Ehsaas, he said that, 98 percent of the financial assistance under the programme was disbursed among needy women, the prime minister was quoted as having said.

“A country could not prosper unless the resources are invested on women, particularly in education and health sector,” the prime minister added.

He also expressed satisfaction that the Ehsaas programme for socio-economic development provided financial assistance to “deserving people in pandemic, which was acknowledged internationally.”

The prime minister urged the public to pay taxes and said that, all such money would be spent on their welfare and development.– NNN-APP
