ULAN BATOR, Mar 4 (NNN-XINHUA) – A strong dust storm hit the central Mongolian province of Tuv yesterday, causing poor visibility on roads, local media reported, citing the country’s Traffic Police Department.
The department urged drivers to take extra precautions against possible accidents.
Strong winds, heavy snow and yellow dust storms are expected to hit the central, eastern and southern parts of Mongolia, in the coming days, said the country’s meteorology and environmental monitoring agency.
Strong winds, dust storms and snowstorms have become common weather events, during spring time in Mongolia, one of the nomadic countries in the world. According to the Ministry of Environment and Tourism, dust storms caused by climate change have been more frequent in recent years.
A total of 10 people, mostly nomadic herders, and hundreds of thousands of livestock died in the country, due to strong winds and heavy storms in Mar, 2021.– NNN-XINHUA
