Sumatera quake causes tremors in Malaysia, Singapore

KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 25 (NNN-Bernama) — A strong earthquake in Indonesia’s Sumatera island Friday caused tremors that were also felt along the west coast of Peninsular Malaysia and Singapore.

Office workers in several high-rise buildings here and in Malaysia’s federal administrative capital, Putrajaya rushed to the streets after they felt the buildings sway or shake.

People in several areas also tweeted that they felt the tremors.

The Malaysian Meteorological Department issued a statement saying that a 6.1-magnitude earthquake had occurred in northern Sumatera, and that tremors were also felt in the state of Perak, Selangor, Negeri Sembilan and Johor.
