Russia-Ukraine conflict: IOC ‘strongly condemns’ Russia’s breach of Olympic Truce

GENEVA, Feb 25 (NNN-AGENCIES) — The International Olympic Committee (IOC) has condemned Russia’s invasion of Ukraine and its president Thomas Bach called for peace again.

The IOC said it “strongly condemns the breach of the Olympic Truce by the Russian government … Today, IOC President Thomas Bach reiterates his call for peace, which he expressed in his speeches at the opening ceremony and the closing ceremony of the Olympic Games.

“Following recent events, the IOC is deeply concerned about the safety of the Olympic Community in Ukraine.

“It has established a task force to closely monitor the situation and to coordinate humanitarian assistance to members of the Olympic Community in Ukraine where possible.”

The United Nations-backed Olympic Truce started seven days before the Feb 4-20 Beijing Olympics and runs until seven days after the completion of the March 4-13 Paralympics there. — NNN-AGENCIES
