Sixth Int’l Women Film Festival Kicks Off In Egypt

ASWAN, Egypt, Feb 24 (NNN-MENA) – The 6th Aswan International Women Film Festival (AIWFF), kicked off yesterday, with a red-carpet ceremony, attended by dozens of Egyptian and foreign artistes, filmmakers and critics.

Held annually in Egypt’s glamourous city of Aswan by the Nile River, the AIWFF sheds light on women’s causes and rights through filmmaking.

The festival is held this year from Feb 23 to 28, with the participation of 12 films from 18 countries, besides 24 films contesting in the short film competition.

“Our festival discusses issues related to the cinema industry, and issues related to women,” said Mohamed Abdel-Khalek, president and founder of AIWFF, at the opening ceremony.

The AIWFF is funded by the European Union delegation to Egypt.

The opening ceremony was attended by the governor of Aswan, officials from the Egyptian ministries of culture, tourism, social solidarity and foreign affairs, and foreign diplomats.– NNN-MENA
