DOHA, Qatar, March 27 (NNN-QNA) – Qatari Minister of State for Defence Affairs, Khalid Al Attiyah, discussed here with visiting Italian Minister of Defence, Elisabetta Trenta, means to boost military and defence cooperation.
Attiyah received Trenta and her accompanying delegation during an official visit to Qatar, said a statement by the Directorate of Moral Guidance, at the Ministry of Defence.
The two sides also discussed latest regional and international developments, the statement said.
Qatar and Italy are bound by close relations in the security and military fields as part of Doha’s bid to strengthen its armed forces.
The Qatari defence ministry signed, in 2016, contracts allowing Italy’s firm Fincantieri, to build seven new-generation warships, as part of its programme to upgrade Qatar’s royal navy.
On June 30, 2018, Attiyah launched the project, at a celebration by the company, to mark the beginning of operations to build the vessels.– NNN-QNA
