World Food Crisis Report 2019 To Be Presented In Brussels

ROME, Italy, March 27 (NNN-PRENSA LATINA) – The World Food Crisis Report 2019, will be launched in Brussels on April 2, the Food and Agriculture Organisation of the United Nations (FAO), announced in Rome on Wednesday (today).

According to the agency, the annual document brings together regional and national data and analysis, that reveal the latest global picture of acute food and nutrition insecurity, trends and causes, while providing humanitarian and development actors with essential information, to inform their programming, policy and financing decisions.

The presentation will be held during the opening day of the high-level event ‘Food and Agriculture in Times of Crisis,’ organised by the European Commission, on behalf of the Global Network against Food Crises.

The previous year’s report was presented jointly by FAO, WFP, the Global Fund for Agricultural Development, the World Health Organisation (WHO) and the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) and revealed a third consecutive year of growth in world hunger.

In 2017, it indicated that at least 821 million people were undernourished, about one in every nine people on the planet, and attributed its growth to conflict, variability and extreme climate conditions.

That document considered progress in reducing stunting, but noted that the levels were still unacceptably high, more than in 2017, afflicting nearly 151 million children under five years of age, more than 22 percent of the total for that age group.– NNN-PRENSA LATINA
