WELLINGTON, Feb 18 (NNN-AGENCIES) – New Zealand recorded 1,929 new community cases of COVID-19 today, the Ministry of Health said, in a statement.
Among the new community infections, 1,384 are in the largest city of Auckland, 155 in nearby Waikato, 28 in the Capital and Coast region, 35 in Canterbury, 77 in Southern, and 13 in Northland, according to the ministry.
In addition, 18 new cases were detected at the New Zealand border, said the ministry. There are 73 patients being treated in hospitals, with one case held in intensive care unit.
New Zealand reported a total of 26,544 confirmed cases of COVID-19 since the beginning of the pandemic in the country, including 9,874 active community cases.
About 95 percent of the eligible population have been vaccinated with at least two doses.
New Zealand is currently at the highest Red settings, under its COVID-19 Protection Framework, when face masks are mandatory in many indoor environments, and gatherings are limited to 100 people.– NNN-AGENCIES
